RGR009 - Alefgard Ho?

No one outside the castle seemed to have noticed the shaking or the darkness or the creepy floating voice, so we assumed it was directed at us. The one place we could think of to go next was the Great Pit of Giaga, and sure enough, we arrived to find it ripped open wider than before, with portions of the wall destroyed. Fortunately, the guards were fine. When we jumped into the pit, we landed on a small dock outside a house, and inside the house, a man welcomed us to the world of darkness, also known as Alefgard.

It would appear this game takes place in the distant past of the previous games in the series.

Now this is just weird.

This is all too familiar.

Our first stop was the nearby town of Brecconaly, which I remember being called Brecconary. Close enough, I suppose. The town was completely separate from the castle in Dragon Warrior, but actually contains the castle here. The townspeople were accustomed to living in darkness, and were all well aware of Zoma's existence. We ran into Kandar once again here, but he was without henchmen, and seemed to be done with the evildoing. He appeared to be in a prison uniform, but wasn't in a jail of any sort. Maybe it was the only other clothing he owned.

Oh, they changed the spelling?

Yeah, we're not too happy about that.

Then why are you here?

Sounds pretty handy.

We took a stroll through Tantegal Castle, which looked very similar to its Dragon Warrior counterpart (though the Stones of Sunlight aren't where I expected them to be), and eventually went up to see the king. We learned from a woman in the king's chamber that my father, Ortega, had apparently survived his battle with the dragon, and wound up in Alefgard. He may still be alive!

Wow, the first king in the game with a name!

Ooh, will there be golems to slay?

WH-WHA?!

But we have to. It's the point of the game.

You don't seem surprised.

I guess the next step is to start visiting the towns I can remember from Dragon Warrior, and see if we can't gather up everything we need to create the Rainbow Drop to get to Zoma's castle.

At least we've got a boat this time.
